About Me

Check out my first official do something simple project -- PROJECT CORK! I came across this web site, http://recork.org, and learned that the smallest thing, like saving wine and champagne corks to be recycled, can be beneficial in many ways. They don't reuse them as corks but instead recycle them into things like cork boards, fishing rod handles and footbeds for shoes. With 13 billion corks sold into the world market each year, anything that gets recycled stays out of already crowded landfills. And thanks to Wildfire Grill in Schaumburg, IL for participating in this very worthwhile endeavor and providing a place for me to drop off all the corks I collect! And thanks also to Crystal Lake Country Club in Crystal Lake, IL as well as all my golf and tennis friends for agreeing to stock pile all their corks for me!

Hi! My name is Diane and I live outside Chicago, Illinois. In 1989 my life was dramatically changed by the publication of a little 96 page book called "50 Simple Things You Can Do To Save The Earth". I still have that book. (I also have the follow-up books "30 Simple Energy Things You Can Do To Save The Earth" and "The Next Step: 50 More Things You Can Do To Save The Earth".)

On page 3 I highlighted this quote by Edmund Burke,

"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little."

Words to live by that became the idea behind this web site. I believe that all we can do is try our best. Everyone can't do everything and most of us can only do some things. But if we all do something simple everyday then the overall effect will be something great.
